acidcat . Akai MPC hardware A.P.B.
WANTED
hardware-written Akai MPC files
12-bit or 16-bit · floppy or CompactFlash
acidcat reads many audio file formats, including MPC files written by the MPC software. But files saved by hardware may use a different layout. We need on-device saves, copied raw off the card or disk, unconverted.
MPC2000 / XLa .PGM + .SND -- settles the hardware-vs-software program layout questions.
MPC3000a .PGM + .SND -- same family as the 2000, or its own dialect?
MPC4000one program -- confirm the Akai Z-series (APRG) format.
MPC5000a .PGM -- the extended MPC1000 variant.
MPC500a program + a .50s -- the .50s format is completely unmapped at the moment.
MPC60 / mkIIa 12-bit sound -- need files directly off of Akai MPC60 and MPC60 II.
A Rosetta Stone: The grail would be the same simple kit saved on several machines. Identical sample names across formats let us decode unknown bytes and compare side by side.
Send hardware saves to
killengn77@gmail.com, or discuss on
github. A few pads and a sine burst is ideal. Make sure to includete the model + firmware if you know it.
